What did you take away from CS Kickstart?

CS Kickstart helped me realize that I have a place in CS! It gave me the confidence to pursue something I once thought would be closed off to me.

As someone entering CS with completely no prior experience before, CS Kickstart provides the optimal opportunity for me to explore the different disciplines within tech. Beyond learning, the inspiration panels from women leaders, the fun bondings we have with fellow peers, and the vibrant energy from the mentors who truly love what they were doing just made me more excited to explore CS. Definitely definitely definitely consider joining CSK for the fun, inclusive, inspirational, and enriching learning atmosphere during the summer!

I am an international student with no previous experience in coding and joining this program made me realize we all don't have any clue about what we're doing. But I made friends within every class so I'm definitely don't feel alone in this foreign country.

CS Kickstart gave me the confidence that I can code on my own, but that I also have the skills and resources to get help. The mentorship and enthusiasm for support from the TAs and CS Kickstart leaders made me feel that I can succeed in Computer Science.

How did CS Kickstart change your perspective on CS?

As an incoming EECS freshman, I was intimidated to join a field well-known as a boy's club. But with CS Kickstart, I feel confident that I can make EECS my own.

I came into this program confident in my previous classes in coding, but not as confident about taking a coding class here at Berkeley. This program allowed me to get a taste of the Berkeley CS experience, and hearing about it from students who had taken CS course at Berkeley themselves. The lessons in Python, Web Development, and Data Science allowed me to gain a feel for the nature of coding here, and made the transition to a higher education much more fluid.

I enjoyed learning a wide variety of CS topics from a wonderful team that is passionate about helping introduce CS to girls. I loved meeting other girls in the same boat as me and connecting with strong-minded women that work in the computer science industry.

Coming into CS Kickstart with 0 coding experience, I'm amazed that this one-week program has gotten me to the point where I'm considering CS as a major or minor.

What is the community at CS Kickstart?

I absolutely adore the people I've met here. Everyone is really passionate, authentic, and genuine, and getting accustomed to the atmosphere and accommodations of the Berkeley area helped me feel much more prepared for move-in day.

CS Kickstart is a great way for incoming freshmen to familiarize themselves with the campus, Berkeley culture, and enter college with a community of female coders!

Additional Feedback

CSK was an amazing experience! As an MCB major, learning about the intersections between CS and other fields was especially rewarding. I would recommend CSK to all incoming female freshmen!

If you are hesitant about your programming skills, just come. If you are not sure about how to make friends in computer science classes, just come. If you are not even sure if you want to be programmer, COME! I've seen so many girls here gain a more attitude about computer science even though they've only barely considered it before, and I am sure that this program will continue doing wonders for many beginners like us.

CSK is awesome! while True: Thank you so much!
